« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week I have been slappin’ some brand new ish…
This week I have been knockin’ Dem HoodStarz’s brand new album Controversy. Dem HoodStarz have been on their grind for a while now, and Controversy is one of their best entries to the rap game. You might remember Band-Aide and Scoot from their hit single Grown Man or from their countless features on other Bay hitter’s albums. They came on the scene when the Hyphy movement was in full effect, yet they are more than just party animals, and on Controversy the duo show their range. Controversy kicks off with They Ain’t Know a track that features a banging piano loop and a nice violin sample. The beat reminds me of some mid 2005 Dr. Dre beats. That’s not to say its dated, They Ain’t Know straight slaps. Band-Aide and Scoot make the track a statment to all the haters, all the people who might have forgotten, or all that were just straight unaware of Dem Hoodstarz. Always Yappin’ is the next track up and Controversy just keeps getting better. Always Yappin’ features a dope verse from Ya Boy Boy Young Mess, yet Band-Aide and Scoot defiantly hold down the track and don’t let Mess steal the spotlight. The next slapper up is Focus On The Money, which is one of two lead singles off Controversy. Focus On The Money is that trunk rattler that you will hear people bangin’ for months to come. Band-Aide and Scoot give us lines like “we make the money, the money never made us”. Lines like this off Focus On The Money tells me that Dem HoodStarz are really 100. There are some great features on Controversy including David Banner on Laughin’, Husalah on Live Illegal, and Gucci Mane on Got a Problem. I am really feelin’ Gucci Mane as of late and his work on Got A Problem makes it one of the best tracks off the album. Got A Problem is also produced by Zaytoven who is actually from S.F., but now resides in Atlanta and works heavily with Gucci. The combonation of Dem HoodStarz, Gucci Mane, and Zaytoven is off the hook, peep this track now. Dem HoodStarz get deeper on Message. Message is for the kids; Dem HoodStarz have been through it and they are out too school the youngsters. They are careful not to glamorize anything, but don’t hold back on the reality of the game. Controversy is full of slappers, touching on a range of subjects, all while keepin’ it true to the game. Band-Aide and Scoot have smart rhymes and consistent original flows, all which shine through on Controversy. Go out and get the latest from Dem HoodStarz and let Band-Aide and Scoot put you up on some game.
