« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week I’ve been slappin’ the latest release from Zion I.

Atomic Clock - Zion I

This week I’ve been riding to the latest album from Zion I, Atomic Clock. Atomic Clock dropped last Tuesday and it hasn’t left my CD changer since; it’s a banger people. For those of you in the dark, Zion I consists of Zumbi, on the M I C and AmpLive who handles the production and DJ duties. These two have been rocking for years now with over 6 studio album and countless shows, and show no sign of slowing down; the biggest sign of all has to be Atomic Clock. Atomic Clock features deep, soulful production that AmpLive is famous for. This man is the Phil Specter of Hip Hop people, he creates a “wall of sound” that will make you think, damn what instrument did I just hear? Do yourself a favor and listen to tracks like Always and North Star with a pair of quality headphones to get the full Atomic Clock experience. Zumbi’s flows to Amplive’s production go together like gin and juice; you will want more. Zumbi is a master of creating a rhyme scheme that will make you think twice all while riding the beat and speaking on some truth. His raps shine on tracks like Infatuation and Polarity which features Macklemore and Locksmith. All three kill the AmpLive production on Polarity and make it one of the real highlights of Atomic Clock. Zion I isn’t afraid to step out of the box on Atomic Clock and know where else is this more prevalent than on Many Stylez featuring Rebelution. You might guess since the song featuring Rebelution that it might have reggae feel to it and that’s exactly what you get on Many Stylez. Why haven’t more Hip Hop artist embraced the reggae community? The two genres of music embrace a lot of the same principals and themes so the combo of Zion I and Rebelution really hits a home run on Many Styelz. I really could name every track on Atomic Clock and tell you why it’s the dope track, but that would be really redundant, because there isn’t a low point on the album. Zion I is always progressing as a group and as Hip Hop artist and this is the case on Atomic Clock. It’s the type of album that will make you say “ I didn’t know Hip Hop could do that”; no barriers people. So grab the latest release from two of Oakland favorite sons, Zion I’s Atomic Clock.

On a side note come out to Slim’s this Saturday night the 20th and catch Zion I and Locksmith. Emdub and I will be there celebrating my 25th. So you know we are going to get it crackin’!
