« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week I got to give a little Thizzler RESPECT to a legend...

Rapper Gone Bad - Mac Dre

In tribute to the passing of a Bay Area LEGEND I have been slappin' my all time favorite Mac Dre album, Rapper Gone Bad. Rapper Gone Bad which was released in September of 1999, features such classic Mac Dre cuts as Fish Head Stew, Fire, and the title track Rapper Gone Bad, and that is just to name a few. Rapper Gone Bad is a classic example of what Mac Dre would give you on an album, he raps about everything from being locked down in the pen on I've Been Down, to getting getting back stabbed by a broad on Fortytwo Fake, back to Dre's favorite subject paper on I'm a Thug. He could tie a wide range of subjects together while making a listener feel right in the middle of it; he was a master storyteller. His storytelling skills shine through  on tracks like the aforementioned Fortytwo Fake, Global featuring Dubee, and Fuck Off The Party featuring The Whoridas; Rapper Gone Bad is full of tales from the king of Vallejo. Mac Dre had many talents from storytelling to bringing people together, everyone was down with Mac Dre. On Rapper Gone Bad Dre brings together  two of his former rivals, Lil' Bruce and B-Legit on the track Valley Joe For those in the dark Lil Bruce and Mac Dre had a local rap battle in the early 90's that culminated with The Super Sig Tapes, a compilation of battle tracks between the Romp Crew and Sick Wid It, on which know one was safe. Dre really got the best of Lil' Bruce in the battle, but Mac Dre was a people person and invited both B-Legit and Lil' Bruce to bless the song for their mutual love of Vallejo. Lil' Bruce would even eventually sign to Thizz ENT and actually became one of the labels most underrated artists. Rapper Gone Bad was released over 10 years ago and it still sounds fresh today! The production is tight and the beats vary from track to track, but all have that distinctively different Mac Dre feel to them. Rapper Gone Bad highlights all of Dre's talents and will stand the test of time as one of Dre's best albums ever. So on the sixth anniversary of the cutty's passing go out and cop Rapper Gone Bad, roll down your window, and bump the album to let the whole world know that the Furley Ghost is alive in all of us. YEE!
