« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week I have been bumpin' the latest from the god father of the Bay....

Respect the Pimpin' - EP - Too $hort

This week I have been slappin' the newest ish' from the Mac of the centruy Too $hort, Respect the Pimpin'. Respect the Pimpin' dropped last week, on the 14th of the Decemeber so it's about the freshest $hort ish' your going to hear.  Only 6 tracks deep Respect the Pimpin' is considered only an EP, but with features from Snoop Dogg, Jazze Pha, Mac Minister, and Richie Rich Respect the Pimpin plays out like a full length album. I recently caught an interview done by DubCNN with $hort (which you can actually check out here on the THIZZLER) where he was asked about why he is only putting out an EP. $hort responded with (I am paraphrasing) "this is the digital age and I have gotten to the level where I can do any kind of project I want to do". Maybe we can expect more of these "small" projects from $hort...I really hope so. Lets get into Respect the Pimpin' which as you can probably tell by the title is all about the 16th letter, P...Pimpin'. Respect the Pimpin' kicks off with Bitch I'm A Pimp which features a 70's funk inspired beat. I can't put my finger on the sample, but as soon as you hear it you will be brought back to a time when Shaft and other Blaxplotation movies were all the rage. The chorus also features a sample from $hort's long time freind Pimp C, R.I.P Chad Buttler. The title track Respect the Pimpin' is up next which features Snoop Dogg, Silk-E & Elijah Baker. Respect the Pimpin' has the real laid back Snoop feel to it, which makes it a dope song to roll down the ave to. It has been good to see $hort and Snoop working so many projects together lately... Bay to L.A. $hort takes it to Atlanta with the next track which features the ATL's own Jazze Pha. Jazze Pha and $hort have had a long history together, and put together another hit with That's Not Your Bitch. That's Not Your Bitch also features another verse from a female rapper that isn't listed on the track listing, and I got the album off Itunes so I cant read the credits. Anyone have an idea of who this female M.C. is? Leave a comment if you do. The album features other tracks such as Get Ya Money and Bitches Need Love To, but my favorite track has to be Ya'll Ready featuring Mac Minister and Richie Rich. Where the hell did $hort get Mac Minister? I thought he was in jail for life? Maybe he was holding onto the track for a while, it really doesnt matter where he got the verse from, because its fire! Definatly the hypest track on Respect the Pimpin'. With over three decades in the game Too $hort is still killin' it! Respect the Pimpin' features some tight production and dope rhyme schemes from THE Bay legend. Even though $hort has been rappin' about the same subject for years now, it still works. Go out and pay homage to a real P.I.M.P and cop Respect the Pimpin'.
