« What's Slappin' In My Trunk by HookedOnHipHop »

This week I have been slappin' Z-man and Kutt Calhoun and their brand new releases.

This week I have been slappin' Z-man's FREE EP Show Up Shut Up and Rap. If you have ever been to a Hip Hop show in the Bay then you have seen a Z-man. Seriously this cat is at every show in the Bay, blessing the mic or just enjoying Hip Hop. Z-man has always had his own style of rhyming and he continues his underground legacy on Show Up Shut Up and Rap. Being only 8 tracks deep, Show Up Shut Up and Rap has to be precise and it delivers on every track. The EP starts off with my favorite track Go Hard. Go Hard is a banger that shows of Z's lyrical talent. He rides the Boac crafted slapper like the seasoned rapper that he is. Boac who produced the majority of the tracks on Show Up, has a distinctive style of his own that meshes well with Z-Man. Boac has been in the game for a while and his rapping and producing skills continue to get better. Progress featuring Boac is a track that highlights Boac growing skills. Z-man does his thing on the Progress but, Boac steals the show and runs away with the song. Cupcakin' which is also produced by Boac is the lead single on Show Up Shut Up and Rap. Cupcakin' has a refreshing beat that has a haunting back drop to it that sounds like a girl softly singing which I find really cool. Z-man kills his rhyme on the track running through pressures and stresses of constantly having to baby your girlfriend. Don't forget about the Cupcakin' remix competition that is going on right now check it out here at ThizzlerOnTheRoof.com. Z-man is one of the Bay's hidden gems when it comes to rapping. He is international renowned but, for some reason he doesn't get the play he deserves in the Bay. So rep the Bay, download this free album, and give it up to one of the hardest working rappers around. GURP CITY!

I know this is a website dedicated to Bay Area artist but, this week I have been bumping Kansas City's Kutt Calhoun and his 2010 release Raw and Un-Kutt. The Bay and Kansas City have always been linked by Hip Hop. Kutt bridges the gap once again by having a host of Bay rappers on Raw and Un-Kutt including artist such as Too $hort and E-40. Raw and Un-Kutt is a diverse record giving us high tempo party anthems and darker tracks that bring us deeper into the mind of Kutt Calhoun. Kutt came up as Tech N9ne's right hand man on Strange Music and his rapping style follows Tech's, but he defiantly comes off more street. Naked (Boom Boom Room) featuring Tech N9ne is the lead single off Raw and Un-Kutt and it delivers a rawkus stripper banger. I felt a little strange listening to this song with my boys or when rollin' in my car, but put it on during a party and watch the ladies go wild. One of the official bangers on Raw and Un-Kutt is She Wants Me featuring Irv Da Phenom and Too $hort. Make sure you have the top down and a bad broad sitting shot gun when playing this song and since $hort is on the record you know it's all about those freaky tales. My favorite cut on Raw and Un-Kutt is Calm Down featuring Riv Locc and Steve Stone. When playing Calm Down you will want to stomp a mud hole in someone, it's a fight song and, sometimes it's better to get your aggression out to a song or a video game than actually knocking someone out. Other bangers on Raw and Un-Kutt include Dark Knight featuring Brother Lynch, Gett Kutt, and That's Kutt Calhoun. Calhoun has his own style, but you can tell that he has been influenced by the Bay. If you said to yourself, "Kutt Who?" when you starting reading this, do yourself a favor and check out the Kansas City Chief Kutt Calhoun and his new record Raw and Un-Kutt.
