« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week I'm keepin it strange baby.... (A day late...my bad! - Em Dub)

This week I have been slappin' Tech N9ne's Callabos The Gates Mix Plate which was released on July 27th 2010. Now first thing is first this is not a mix tape this, is a full length album featuring all new music by Tech N9ne and friends including Yukmouth, Krizz Kaliko, Devin The Dude as well as others. If it isn't apparent yet, I am a big strange music fan, and if there is a new Tech album out you best believe I'm going to be slappin' it for many moons. If you have never listened to Tech's music before he has a furiously fast flow and darker lyrics then most rappers, but he can have a lighter party side. He is actually well tied to the Bay, friends with both Mac Dre and E-4 as well as a founding member of Yukmouth's Regime gang. Now lets get into The Gates Mix Plate. The lead single, official slapper, and one of the hottest songs of the summer is O.G. a tribute to parties, Gates BBQ, and Roger Troutman. With O.G.'s heavy base, vocoder inspired hook, and G funk synths O.G. sounds like 1994 West coast rap with a 2010 Tech N9ne feel. If you haven't played this song yet, stop reading this and find it and play it as loud as you can. It's really hard to kick off an album with such a certified slapper, and keep up the pace but The Gates Mix Plate delivers with tracks such as FU Pay Me, Keep It One Hunit, and Harvey Dent. Harvey Dent is a banger because it addresses the issue of fans always wanting the old shit. Tech N9ne has never been one to listen to critics and give the lyrical middle finger to people who claim they only like the old classics. It's all about progression people; we need innovators pushing this rap game forward and Tech N9ne is sprinting into the future. Tech N9ne loves his drink as do I, so maybe that's why I like K.C. Tea so much. K.C. Tea is a drinking anthem on the lines of Tech's classic song Carabou Lou, but this time K.C. Tea includes Hennessey, Sprite, and a lemon wedge. K.C. Tea is an excellent example of Tech's style, heavy beats, varying pace of flow, and dedication to a theme; he is a story teller even if the story is about his new favorite adult beverage. Afterparty featuring Kutt Kalhoun and Devin The Dude follows Tech's second favorite theme: women. Afterparty has a slower pace to it then other tracks on The Gates Mix Plate play this track at the house party and watch the panties drop. Other bangers include Oh You Didn't Know featuring Irv Da Phenom and The Popper, Paper featuring Jay Rock and Joe Vertigo and Doin' It featuring Yukmouth and Chillest Illest. Doin' It sounds really different for Tech N9ne with a Miami club feel. Its strangely good. Tech N9ne's The Gates Mix Plate is my official must bang album of the summer. If you are a Tech fan you already know what I'm talking about, if you're new to N9ne's music this will be a great start to the rest of your new life.
