« What's Slappin' In My Trunk by HookedOnHipHop »
This week I'm bumping some Quannum Projects!

I am a huge Lyrics Born fan so this week I have been slappin' LB's last release Everywhere At Once in preparation for his up coming release. The Japanese rapper out of Berkley California has been on the scene for some years now touring the globe with his fresh style of Funk and Hip Hop. If you have never been to a Lyrics Born show you are missing the best live shows out there, it's a straight party! Lyrics Born leaves it all on the table on Everywhere At Once, with party jams, straight slappers, and heartfelt tributes to his lost homies. Everywhere At Once will be in your rotation for a very long time. Everywhere At Once kicks off with Don't Change Featuring Mryon Glasper and DJ D Sharp. Don't Change breaks it down for new Lyric Born fans explaining his passions, funk, Berkley, and Hip Hop; L.B. isn't playing and he makes it clear on the opener Don't Change. Don't Change fades into Hott 2 Deff featuring Chali 2na and Joyo Velarde (his wife) to keep the party going. Hott 2 Deff is a fast paced slapper that really highlights the verbal skill of both Lyrics Born and Chali 2na. Next up is Difference featuring Joyo Velarde and B'Nai which is a smart look at the difference between women and men. We all know that a man and his girl will clash at some point, but L.B. takes this simple fact of life and turns it into a party jam that is full of bass and horns. Both men and women will be slappin' this one. One of my favorite tracks is up next, Cakewalk featuring Trackademicks and Baby James. To my knowledge this is Trackademicks rap debut and his really surmised me with his smooth flow, and his down to earth lyrics. Cakewalk is a never give up anthem, you will be knockin' this one on the way to the club Friday night or while working out in the gym; this song goes!. You beat knocks hard with heavy synths and minimal drums; you can really tell that is was inspired by Trackademicks. This album is full of slappers from front to back, I could go on and on about every song, but I wont. Some of the other highlights include I Like it, I love it, Whispers, and The World Is Calling. Everywhere At Once was an instant classic for me and I can't wait for his new album to drop. If you are waiting like me for the new shit, go ahead and get reacquainted with L.B. and if you have never listened to Lyrics Born Everywhere At Once is an excellent start.

I told you I was keeping it Quannam Project this week and I am with Gift of Gab's Escape 2 Mars. You might know Gift of Gab as one half of the world famous group Blackalicious or just as one of the sickest lyricist around. Escape 2 Mars isn't fully a concept album, but it does have a futuristic sound to it that makes it sound very different then past Gift of Gab albums. I really like it when artist especially Hip Hop artist take a huge leap and try something new and different. Now is a concept album new, no. Is a "futuristic" album different new, no. But it is new for Gift of Gab and he does a really good job at attempting something new. E2MTRO is the opener that sets the tone for this sonic journey to mars. E2MTRO has a really slow piano and horn loop that accompanies Gift's flow as well as any Chief XL beat has. El Gifto Magnifico follows with a fun Latin infused flow and beat that will make you wanna bang your head for days. El Gifto Magnifico is the official slapper on Escape 2 Mars. Two of my favorite rappers Brother Ali and Del the Funky Homosapien are featured on Dreamin', a song that will make you sit back and think. Brother Ali and Del kill their verses and show why they are two of the best that the rap game has to offer; Dreamin' gives us three different flow styles, but they all seem to go well together. Electric Waterfalls follows the futurist theme of Escape 2 Mars with its super auto-tuned hook, and fountain of youth theme. I really didn't like Electric Waterfalls at first, but it really grew on me and it turned into one of my favorite tracks on Escape 2 Mars. Not to mention it will rattle your car right off the block! Someathapeople and Spotlight fill out the album with official slappers. Gift of Gab delivers once again on Escape 2 Mars, he shows why him and Quannum are some of the illest out right now. Gift of Gab will continue to do his thing for many years to come, and Escape 2 Mars is a major landmark in his all star career. Slap this NOW!
