This week I'm slappin' Ya Boy Boy Young Mess and some more Kansas City heat by Big Krizz Kaliko...

I've been slappin' Messy Marv's Thizz City compilation which was released August 2010. Thizz City features a host of up and coming artist as well as established vets the list includes: Keak Da Sneak, Roach Gigz, Erk Tha Jerk, Balance, San Quinn, and Glasses Malone just to name a few. Messy Marv has been holdin' down San Francisco as well as the Bay in general, ever since he got home. Thizz City just reinforces Messy Marv's dominance in the Bay Area Hip Hop scene. Thizz City kicks off with Swaggin' Jackin Remix featuring Erk Tha Jerk, Messy Marv, Clyde Carson, Big Rich, Keak Da Sneak, and Balance. I'm not a big fan of Erk Tha Jerk, but I am really feeling the remix due to the fact that the host of other Bay artist kill their verses on the beat. Berner is up next with They a track inspired by his favorite subject; cocaine and money. Berner's word play is off the hook right now, boy can flip a verse. I just wish he could rap about a different subject. That's not to say that he doesn't rip on Thizz City; his raps are banging I just wish he could switch it up every once in a while. If You Wanna Bang featuring some city heroes Cellski, Telly Mac, and Tay Assassin. Cellski kills his verse on the track, while Telly Mac and Tay Assassin hold their own. It's good to hear from Cellski, he is still doing his thing! Of course there are several Messy Marv tracks on Thizz City: Ride Wit Me featuring DZ, Motor Bike, and of course the title track Thizz City. Motor Bike features a tight "vroom vroom" hook that makes the beat slap. It's a little silly at first, but once you play it through you will still "vroom vroom" to yourself. It's a slapper. Thizz City from Messy Marv is a true Bay Area compilation; an album that features a host of well known and soon to be known artist. Compilations are a Bay Area product so it's good to see Mess carry on the tradition in 2010. So hop your ass on Rapbay.com, Itunes, or hit up Amoeba and cop Thizz City.

If you have ever read What's Slappin' In My Trunk then you know I am a big fan of any thing that Strange Music puts out, so it should be no suprise that I have been slappin' Krizz Kaliko's September 2010 release Shock Treatment. If you haven't heard of Krizz Kaliko before you might recognize him as Tech N9ne's hype man, or seen him rock shows with E-40 and the Federation, or you might have heard his past albums Vitiligo and Genius. Krizz Kaliko is much more then a hook singer or a hype man he is also a dope rapper and one hell of a entertainer. Shock Treatment features Strange Music affiliates: Tech N9ne (of course), Irv Da Phenom, Big Scoob, and Brother Lynch Hung. Those Strange Music boys roll tight. Shock Treatment has a nice rhythm of up tempo joints and slower paced jams. On the party side of things Krizz gives us tracks like Elevator featuring Tech N9ne, All Gas No Brakes featuring Big Boyz, and Freaks featuring Tech N9ne. Freaks is a party anthem for every one is who is a little different. Freaks is a SLUMPER! Now on the other side of the spectrum we have tracks like Alive and In My Dreams featuring Brother Lynch Hung and Big Scoob. In My Dreams is an introspective look into the minds of these three rappers. The song is features a down tempo beat that has a haunting dream like echo to it. In My Dreams really showcases the range of Krizz Kaliko and in fact all of Strange Music. The production on Shock Treatment is off the hook, Rob Rebeck, Strange Music main man behind the boards seems to get better with every new album. Krizz Kaliko comes correct and complete on Shock Treatment by doing it all singing, rapping, hyping the party and taking us into his deepest thoughts; it's really a complete album. Bump this in the trunk now. It's Kali Baby!
