« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week I have been keepin' it real underground with the Cali Agents....
This week I have been slappin' Cali Agents and their 2004 release Head Of The State. For those of you not familiar with Cali Agents the duo consists of Planet Asia out of Fresno and Rasco out of the Sucka Free, San Francisco California. Cali Agents came together in 2000 with their first release How The West Was One, which has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. Seriously if you haven't heard it go get it and slap it in some 6x9's and a some 12's, because it will blow your mind. Then they had another release in 2006 by the name of Fire And Ice; Fire And Ice was and is an ill album. I've been slappin' Head Of The State, because I was unaware the album, needless to say when I found out about it, I jumped on the chance to hear, review, and just ride to some unheard Cali Agents music. Head Of The State pops off with a hell of funny Intro. I'm not usually down with the "funny" intros or interludes, but the Intro is pretty damn funny. The Intro is short and quickly fades into Sharp. Sharp features a minimalist beat that sounds like a distorted guitar loop which sounds pretty grimy; the beat also features some dope ass cuts during the chorus. If you have never heard the duo of Rasco and Planet Asia before, Sharp is a great introduction. The song highlights Rasco's smooth flow, and the contrast between Planet Asia's sharp lyrical rhyme scheme. The contrast between the two MC styles is the secret to the Cali Agents' success; they compliment each other very well. Cali Nights is the next track, and its an ode to the state that we all love. It's no secret that Cali Agents love California, and they make it official on Cali Nights. The track includes a dope violin loop, that goes well with the hard hitting drums. I should make this clear now every Cali Agents song is a banger; your speakers will be blown. Other slappers on Head Of The State include RawRap, Banger, and the bonus track Endless. The Cali Agents even give the ladies a shout out with Go Ladies, which is actually a really fresh song. Head Of The State is actually a really short album, but don't let that stop you from checking it out, because every track is a slapper. Head Of The State is extremely hard to find, I'm a big fan and I didn't even know about it, but you will be able to find it on Itunes. Head Of The State and Cali Agents are some hidden jewels in the Bay Area Hip Hop scene so hit up Itunes and be prepared get your trunk slappin'.
