« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week I'm puttin' my ear to the Turf...

This week I have been slappin' the latest from Turf Talk, Turf Sinatra. Turf Talk is really repping the West Coast and Vallejo with Turf Sinatra. With hard hitting drum beats, and G-funk overtones, Turf Sinatra is an impressive entry into West Coast Hip Hop scene. Turf Talk doesn't do it alone and brings a long a host of friends for Turf Sinatra including Yumouth, Dubee, Gonzo, and Tyeena. Turf Sinatra kicks off with Get On My Other Shit featuring Yukmouth. Get On My Other Shit is Turf's explanation to the haters. He exclaims "I change with the time, I make music to the melody and I just go with that". It's rare for an artist today who can change up his style at will. Get On My Other Shit goes hard to, with Yukmouth killing the second verse, it's an excellent opening banger. Turf Sinatra quickly goes into Get Behind Me which is so West Coast it could have its own pair of Chucks. Get Behind Me is an official slapper that features a hard hitting bass line and once again a changed up flow from the boy Turf Talk. You either need to get behind Turf Talk or fall off, because this track is off the hook. Nothin' Changed follows with a rare collaboration between Thizz artist Dubee and SicWidIt's Turf Talk. It's really good to see a united rap scene Vallejo and Dubee is not slouching on Nothin' Changed bringing his signature turf etiquette to the track. Nothin' Changed has some hard hitting drums and piano kicks that makes you feel like you are the back in the glory days of the West Coast. If you want to wake up the neighbors play Tatted Up featuring Tyeena which is a certified hit. Turf Talk really switches up his style for this track, delivering a clearer flow to a slower beat that progresses into a brooding anthem. Tatted Up is the real deal people, I really think that Turf Talk solidifies his spot in the 2010-2011 Bay Hip Hop Scene with this track. Check it out at the bottom...Now. What Can I Do is up next with a more "Sinatra" laid back feel to it. When What Can I Do kicks off Turf explains the meaning of Turf Sinatra, "Sinatra sang for the mob, I rap for the mob, so I am the Turf Sinatra". What Can I Do has that more classic Turf flow and voice to, which makes it a classic Turf Talk Song. Other slappers on Turf Sinatra include Connected (play with headphones!), Dice Game and Gas Station. Turf Sinatra is only 10 tracks deep, but is a very well rounded album. Turf Talk is way more then Hyphy. I think he gets stuck in that category alot, which there is nothing wrong with that, but he can do so much more. Vallejo, The Bay, and The West Coast should be proud of the Street Novelist-Turf Talk and Turf Sinatra. Make sure you got a new amp in your scrapper for the trunk rattling sound of Turf Sinatra!
