« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week I am keepin' it strictly Hip Hop...
For little over a week I have been slappin' the freshest ish' from Mistah F.A.B., I Found My Backpack. Mistah F.A.B. latest release which features DJ Rah2k and The Empire, hit the streets on Tuesday the 18th, but F.A.B. hit me with the album a few days back and thank god he did because this album is pure Hip Hop. Mistah F.A.B. is one of the most versatile rappers in the Nation, let alone the Bay. He really can do anything on the MIC, and on I Found My Baclpack he takes it back to the essence of Hip Hop: lyrics, beats, and raw emotion. I Found My Backpack kicks off with an emotional goodbye to Hyphy. Eulogy 2 Hyphy, which is produced by Droop-E, is a slow brooding send off to Hyphy music where Mistah F.A.B. poors his heart out to the failed music genre that F.A.B. help create. Eulogy 2 Hyphy is a fitting end to Hyphy, (pooring out some heem for hyphy over here). After Eulogy 2 Hyphy we go into some straight GAS with tracks like What's Going On, and Don't Be Afraid. As soon as you hear What's Going On and Don't Be Afraid you start to get an idea of where F.A.B. is going on I Found My Backpack. That direction being lyrical verb flippage and deep introverted social commentary. Mistah F.A.B. keeps it street thugish on the next track Don't Give A Fuck featuring Ya Boy & Retro. Don't Give A Fuck is a middle finger to pussies, the world, and fakes. I have to say that Mistah F.A.B. style really goes with Ya Boy's and I can't wait for their callabo album to come out. Kickin Me follows Don't Give A Fuck with a different attitude of strength, that nothing can hold F.A.B. down. The hard hitting drums and piano loops are extremely West Coast, so you know you can ride to it. In the middle of I Found My Backpack F.A.B. gives us a chunk of songs that will stand the test of time as legitament Hip Hop Bangers. On tracks like Dear God featuring Blast Holiday, Thank You, Lookin For Fame, and The Theme Mistah F.A.B. shows off his story telling abilities as well as versatility as a rapper. Am I Dreamin' has to be the climax of I Found My Backpack; a track that F.A.B. did for his recently departed moms and to his people in the struggle. You can feel his heart spill out on to the track as F.A.B. flips each verse. Am I Dreamin is one of the most heart felt Hip Hop songs I have ever heard. My favorite track on the album Lose Everything which is produced by Rob-E (MTZ WHAT!) is up next. Lose Everything go can toe to toe with any Hip Hop tracks out there right now, it's pure gas. If there was one track you were going to listen to or buy off I Found My Backpack make sure its Lose Everything. My Environment which is also produced by Rob-E is another great example of how F.A.B. can take a subject and theme and run with. Each verse on the My Environment is a different type of environment that F.A.B. relates to where he is from; from the ZOO, to the Ocean, and finally the Desert. My Environment has a great theme to it, and is a track not to miss. I really could go on and on about I Found My Backpack, but there is not enough room on the Thizzler for this review. I Found My Backpack is honestly some of the realest Bay ish' in a long long while. Mistah F.A.B. gives 110% on each track to make I Found My Backpack one of the highlights of an early 2011, but it would be safe to say that it will be one of the best Bay Area albums of the year. Thizz or choke on something!
