« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week I found my backpack again...

I Found My Backpack 2 - The Lost Notebook - Mistah F.A.B.

This week I'm slappin' the latest from Mistah F.A.B., I Found My Backpack 2: The Lost Notebook. Mistah F.A.B. follows up his critically acclaimed I Found My Backpack with the second instalment taking it back to the roots of Hip Hop all while showing off his diverse styles and flows.

I Found My Backpack 2 features a whole host of heavy hitters and bay rappers including Nio Tha Gift, Royce Da 5'9, Nore, Jadakiss, The Grouch, Freeway, Erk Tha Jerk, and Andre Nickatina just to new a few. The collaborations between some of the industries most note worthy artist as well as underground Bay artists is one of my favorite things about I Found My Backpack 2. Take for example I'm A Legend featuring The Grouch and Andre Nickatina. These are two artist that I thought would never be on the same track, but Mistah F.A.B. bridges the gap between Fillmore cocaine raps and The Grouch's vegan raps. I'm A Legend is one of the dopest tracks off I Found My Backpack 2, but it's just one of the bangers off I Found My Backpack 2 that features some dope collabos. Other tracks that feature some Hip Hop heavy weights include Probably B The Greatest featuring Nore and Jadakiss, and In My City featuring Talib Kweli and Royce Da 5'9.

Now I Found My Backpack 2 isn't all about features, the album demonstrates Mistah F.A.B.'s diverse flow and ever changing artistry. Welcome To Hell is one example of how Mistah F.A.B. crafts an extremely deep and thought provoking story. Welcome To Hell is a story of one mans journey to Hell and the dirt he did to get there. In my belief story telling in Hip Hop is a lost art that more MC need to embrace. Mistah F.A.B. breaks down the story of his High school peers and memories in the song Yearbook. From prom queens to dope fiends and Dontrell Willis and Marshawn Lynch, Mistah F.A.B. breaks down the history/present of a whole host of his high school peers. What makes Yearkbook such a great song is the fact that I never met any one of these people, but the way F.A.B. spits, it makes me feel like I already knew them. Mistah F.A.B. shines as one of the Bay's best story tellers on I Found My Backpack 2.

Mistah F.A.B. takes it back to the old school and pays tribute to the classics on I Found My Backpack 2. On Bring The Classics Back Mistah F.A.B. breaks down all his favorites from Scarface to RUN DMC back to MC Hammer. Bring The Classics Back kicks off I Found My Backpack 2, and starts the album off with a bang. The track reminds me a lot of 2pac's Old School, which is another classic track that I don't think any MC today would care to be compared with.

The above mentioned tracks are just some of the killer songs on Mistah F.A.B.'s I Found My Backpack 2. There isn't really a bad track or one I wanted to skip on I Found My Backpack 2, but make sure to check out PSA featuring San Quinn, Get Away featuring Tajma, and Money featuring Torica and Prodigy. There just isn't enough time to or space on THIZZLER to tell you why I love each track. Now if I had to put my finger on something that wasn't up to par with the first I Found My Backpack is the mixing between tracks. DJ RAH2K did the hosting/mixing on the first I Found My Backpack and even though I didn't like all the Jamaican Air horns and drops on each track, it was nice to have each track flow into each other. This is just a minor complaint, really I Found My BackPack is an A+.

Mistah F.A.B. puts together a true Hip Hop classic with I Found My Backpack 2. F.A.B. brings Bay Hip Hop to another level that blurs the line between new and old all while staying true to himself, where he came from, and his rap roots. Go out and cop your new copy of I Found My Backpack 2 and wake yourself up to some of the dopest game spitting in not just the Bay, but the whole game.
