« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week I'm keepin' it moving...
This week I'm slappin' the latest from Equipto and Mike Marshall: K.I.M. 2: Love Changes (Keep It Moving). The combination of Equipto's rapping skill and the legendary voice of Mike Marshall makes K.I.M. 2 a true Bay Area banger. K.I.M 2 features a wide variety of guest features, including Yukmouth, Z-Man, Berner, Cognito, Shag Nasty, Sunspot Jonz and many others. Only Mike Marshall and Equipto could work with such an eclectic group of artists on the same album. K.I.M 2 does something quite different, it opens up with two intros Overdue and Kimtro. Overdue is more of the intro to an album that you would expect and features banter between the two artists, while Kimtro is more of a song that sets up K.I.M. 2. Following these two tracks is Love Again. Now if you were wondering if you were going to get an album that features Mike Marshall just on the hook, Love Again proves you wrong. Equipto and Mike Marshall split the mic very well and there is a nice balance of Mike and Equipto not just on Love Again, but on the entire album. Next up is Wakey Bakey featuring Berner & Yukmouth. Now what would a Mike Marshall and Equipto album be without at least one weed song? Probably still good, but I'm really feeling Wakey Bakey. Mike Marshall uses some Auto-Tune on the hook, now if you have read What's Slappin' In My Trunk you know I am not a fan of Auto-Tune, but Mike Marshall makes it work for Wakey Bakey. Now if you don't smoke but you do drink, Mike and Equipto got you covered too. I Drink Fernet featuring Skeptic and Cognito covers San Francisco's unofficial liqueur Fernet Branca. Equipto and Mike do their thing on I Drink Fernet, but for me Skeptic and Cognito really steal the show. If you ever have lived in the city, or drank some Fernet you will be feeling I Drink Fernet. K.I.M. 2 isn't all party tracks about drinking and smoking though; Mike Marshall and Equipto hit us with tracks like She's Always In My Hair featuring Z-Man. Mike Marshall opens up She's Always In My Hair, a track that is dedicated to the person who has mad love for you and is always supporting you. Some real ish' about the support we need from people. It's also nice to hear Z-Man and Mike Marshall on the same track! Another bangers on K.I.M 2 include Frustration featuring Mistah F.A.B. & Dregs One, Hopefully featuring Shag Nasty, and Lonely. The whole album really slaps, but not in the "trunk rattling we going to party our ass off" kind of slap. It's more like that "I'm going to roll a swisher and lay back on a rainy day" kind of slap. Mike Marshall and Equipto are a dope combo, if you weren't a fan of one of them before listening to the album, you will be a fan of both before you're done. K.I.M. 2 is another album that proves that Bay artists fuck with each hard! Every week its a new album featuring this rapper and that rapper that you never thought would work together, this is what will build the Bay. So Keep It Moving to the record store to pick up K.I.M. 2: Love Changes!
