Last Saturday night Roach Gigz performed at the Red House in Walnut Creek and tore the house down. If you have never been to the Red House, it's a music venue, recording studio, and practice space all rolled into one PLUS a bar. One of the first things I noticed was who was at the show. You know, what the crowd was like. There was a good ratio of girls and guys, but lots of youngins. Red House is an all ages club, so that's why there were so many kids there; it was cool, but it just made me feel old. I showed up a little late and missed the first act but the second act was horrible and I do mean HORRIBLE. I don't even remember their names, they were some sort of techno hip hop mashup group. Roach Gigz was up next though and the crowd was pretty pumped. Roach hit the stage with a lot of intensity and the crowd automatically gave it right back. The sound for Roach was pretty good; the bass was slappin' extra tough and you could feel the room going crazy. Roach did a pretty good job of mixing in his older and his latest work. I like it and appreciate it when an artist can go back in his catalogue and still do the new stuff. Speaking of new stuff, Roach even had the crowd rapping every word to his slap Can I Rap. I have been surprised with everything that Roach has done so far and the live show was no exception. He had dope mic control, good stage presence and the hyphy energy that the Bay is known for.
