What's up Thizzler fans! This is Jay with the 3rd edition of HOT TOPIC and this week is the RAPSHACK Edition! So with that being said, let's get this started with some good music and some even better rappers...
MP3 DOWNLOAD: SHOW BANGA - YIKES
First up is Mr. "Rookie Of The Year", Showbanga, straight from the Fillmore district of San Francisco. A Rapshack and Get It Back Fam rapper with phenomenal flows... This guy right here has been in his grind for years and fell short by a little bit last year for the BAY AREA FRESHMEN 10 by DJ Amen. This year, this kid came even HARDER and now he has a song lighting up the streets and the websites called "Yikes". This song right here is what you expect from Showy: straight GAS, with a feature from E Money and production from IAMSU, his long time friend and a familiar name with all of us. This guy is proud of his work and is only expected to get better. I asked Showy how positive he is about being in the Bay Area Freshmen 10 this year, he said, "I'm positive about it. I kind of felt I could have made it last year but you know, everything happens for a reason so I can't cry about it. I just gotta keep grinding and everything should fall in place. This year's Freshmen 10 is gonna be big..." He kept his head up and waited a year but now he is pushing even STRONGER and feels that this is his year. I also asked him what feeds his grind and he replied, "Well, seeing my old band member IAMSU doing so well let's me know this music is & has been for us. A lot of artists hated on us when we were coming up as Go Gettaz but aye, look at us now. The hard work is paying off." Which is true, he and IAMSU are both getting their shine right now in the Bay and both are putting out good quality music. This "New Bay" thing has been big for 2011 and is starting to make the streets buzz. This guy right here is very optimistic. I look up to his grinding and I hope to see his name in lights one day... Next on the mic is another Rapshack legend: SMITH ANDREWS better known as "Shorty". He is a BEAST on the mic and and another hopeful for the BAY AREA FRESHMEN 2011. Straight from the South Vallejo streets, he loves his hood. This guy right here is a killer on the mic with flows that are sensational and provide pleasure for your ears. I just got put on to his music and I was taken by surprise. He just put out a CD called "Diary Of A Super Hero" which is something I recommend that everybody go download. He has a song called "Tell Me If You Wanna" featuring P-Child and produced by Slapmaster and it's a certified panty dropper. I asked him what his main influence for starting to rap was and he said, "I always had a passion for music. Being the only child, my mother was the one to blame because before she had my younger brother Joseph I didn't have anyone to play with, so she would give me a radio and her cassettes and I would listen to them. Or she would tell me to watch Video Soul, [a show] that used to come on B.E.T back in the day. I fell in love with artists like Outkast, 2pac, Ice Cube and DJ Quik." I also asked him how he knows when his music makes an impact on people and he replied, "I know this is for me because people quote my lines from songs now on Twitter. Other artists that I know that are real fans of good music tell me they see something big coming my way with the kind of music that I make. I make music for people like me. People trying to find themselves." I have high expectations for this artist. I know he can make it because of his commitment and creativity...
