« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week I am keepin' it strange...
for some time now I've been riding to the latest from Brotha Lynch Hung, Coathanga Strangla. The follow up to Brotha Lynch Hung's 2010 smash hit Dinner and a Movie, Coathanga Strangla is the second installment of a three part series. Coathanga Strangla follows the devilish antics of Brotha Lynch Hung's alter ego Mannibalector aka the Coathanga Strangla. As mentioned before Coathanga Strangla is the second installment in a three part series and picks up where Dinner and a Movie left off leaving us with a distraught Brotha Lynch Hung who is on the edge. Dinner and a Movie was more about a regular joe going through life problems, and Coathanga Strangla is about the same guy whos problems have pushed him over the edge. The album starts off with Working Late (Intro) which is not a song, but a skit where a young girl is getting chased into a doctors office by a mad man. Working Late quickly fades into The Coathanga featuring COS. The Coathanga is more of intro than Working Late as it gives us some insight into the mind of Brotha Lynch Hung and where he is taking this album. A heavy piano loop sets the gruesome tone while Brotha Lynch breaks down the myth of his double identity the serial killer the Coathanga Strangla. One of my favorite tracks is up next, Look It's a Dead Body, which features some of the best lyricism on the album. Brotha Lynch touches on several subjects on Look It's a Dead Body from crippin', to not allegations of hurting children, and even being upset about not signing to Shady Records. One of my favorite lines from Coathanga Strangla touches on that very subject, "Still hella mad that I didn't sign with Shady/Records but I'm Strange Now/Snake and the Bat sickest independent on the map". Coathanga Strangla takes an even darker harder direction after Look It's a Dead Body, with tracks like Suicide Watch featuring Devious, Lauren Brinson, First Degree The D.E., & Don Rob, Red Dead Bodies featuring G Macc, and Friday Night featuring COS. Friday Night is one of the dopest tracks on Coathanga Strangla featuring COS who has a dope opening verse, I wish he would rap more on the album instead of doing skits and interludes. Friday Night has more of a gangster rap feel to it, then previous tracks, which I'm really feelin'. The story of the Coathanga Strangla continues with tracks such as Therapy Session featuring Bleezo, Big NoLove, Sav Sicc, & Skitzo ,and I Don't Think My Momma Ever Loved Me featuring Mr. Blap & Irv Da Phenom. I Don't Think My Momma Ever Loved Me is one of the deepest tracks that I have heard from Lynch in a while. Lines like, "I don't think my momma ever loved me, never hugged me, had to tackle her like rugby." The track gives us insight on why Brotha Lynch Hung has turned into the Coathanga Strangla. Mr. Blapp and Irv Da Phenom split vocal duties on the track which is quite unique, because it takes to vocalists and weaves their voices into one. Other bangers on the album include I C U featuring Tech N9ne, and Blinded By Desire featuring Lauren Brinson. I didn't speak much on the production on Coathanga Strangla, but the production is some of the tightest that I have ever heard Brotha Lynch rap over. From the beats, to mixing the album is on point, proably, because of the money Strange Music is putting behind Brotha Lynch. A little tip if you already have Dinner and a Movie put it in a playlist with Coathanga Strangla and play it from start to finish and you will see the progression of the two albums. I will be slappin' Coathanga Strangla until the third installment Mannibalector drops early next year. I suggest you slap Coathanga Strangla too and get serial killer on.
