« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week it's all about Fillmore...

Rappin' 4-Tay - Still Standing
Still Standing - Rappin' 4-Tay

This week I'm slappin' the latest from Fillmore legend Rappin' 4-Tay, Still Standing. I'm all for the #NewBay, but Rappin' 4-Tay is one of the originators of Bay Area Hip Hop especially Frisco rap, so you know I had to slap his latest work. Its been almost four years since we have heard a full album from 4-Tay and the wait was not in vain; Still Standing has elements of old and new, but stays true to Rappin' 4-Tay's roots as a smooth lyrical beast that can kick a rhyme about pimping or the struggle of love and life. Still Standing features a whole gang of features that brings the Bay together including: Matt Blaque (he's on four tracks), San Quinn, Montel Jordan, Mac Mall, Celly Cell, Baby Bash and so many more. I usually don't like a lot of features on an album, but it's good to hear a wide variety of  game spitters bless the mic on a Bay legend's album. Still Standing kicks off with a real, real soulful track Don't Trip featuring Mike Marshall. Don't Trip is one of those laid back feel good songs that will make you feel like everything is going to be alright. Right off the bat Don't Trip lets you know that Rappin' 4-Tay hasn't missed a beat on his rhyme game; the way 4-Tay flips his rhymes on Don't Trip will make you put your fist up to your mouth and say god damn! Now off the laid back hype that 4-Tay gives us on Don't Trip he hits us with the club clappin' Encore featuring Montel Jordan, Mac Mall and Treach from Naught By Nature. First off on Encore  I want to know where 4-Tay got this slappin' violin beat and where he found Montel Jordan? Then how did he put Mac  Mall and Treach on  the same track where everyone verses hits! Montel Jordan's hook is dope too  it makes  me say "why is he a one hit wonder?" 4-Tay also does his thing on Encore hitting us with a 2 verses to everyone's one and kills both rapping about the best thing in the world, ladies. Another club banger that I'm really feelin' is Drip featuring Matt Blaque and Mistah F.A.B.. Fab kicks off Drip with a different style of verses that we are used to from him, its more of a slow talking, but still comes off real smooth. Matt Blaque is up next on the track, and he has a whole verses of singing/rapping that comes off so saucy.  But the best is saved for last Rappin' 4-Tay shows us why he is the king of Fillmore with clever rhymes, decisive pauses, and that real laid back voice that every "pimp" has bitten 4-Tay comes off like a true player. Other tracks that stand out include, All Night Long featuring Matt Blaque and Celly Cell,  Put It On Me featuring Baby Bash, Dru Down, and Icon, and After the Club featuring Levitti. Rappin' 4-Tay kills on Still Standing, and shows why he has been destroying the Bay Rap game for over 20 years. Still Standing features smooth, thought out rhymes as well as a host of features that represent old and new Bay Area artist that will help bridge the gap between new and old fans. It is good to seen 4-Tay still in the game and better then ever. Do yourself a favor and cop Still Standing by Rappin' 4-Tay, and  I'll see you at the players club.
