« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »
This week it's all about the funny...
This week I have been slappin' Turtleneck & Chain from Berkeley's own The Lonely Island. Now I know what you are saying, "haven't I seen this guys on SNL?" yes you are right! The group consists of "Kiv" Schaffer, "Jorm" Tacconne, and Andy Samberg; Kiv and Andy regularly appear on the SNL, with occasional input from Jorm. Originally from Berkley Ca, the group now resides in NY City, but their bay roots are still prevalent in all of their raps. This isn't your normal rap music though, filled with off the wall lyrics about Captain Jack Sparrow, stinky dick, and light beer The Lonely Island is comedy in every bar. The Lonely Island draws on a host of collaboration for Turtleneck & Chain including Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Akon, and even Michael Bolton, yes thats right Michael Bolton! Now most songs have a video that accompanies the song, make sure you check out the visual while you slap The Lonely Island's music. Now lets get into Turtleneck & Chain! The album kicks off with We're Back! now this isn't your typical album intro about "hey remember us"...the whole song is about all three member's dick. We're Back has nothing to do with anything, but all three members cock. My favorite line in We're Back has to be "We started this fake rap shit, the world needs us!" now that shit is real! The Lonely Island is trying to lighten up the rap game, which is often time super serious; I can dig it, can you? Another banger on Turtleneck & Chain is I Just Had Sex featuring Akon. Andy and Kiv with Akon on the hook lay a picture of what it is like right after you Just Had Sex. You know that feeling when your on top of the world, nothing can bring you down? You just had sex, and nothing can stop you; that is the feeling that I Just Had Sex gives you. Now I have felt this feeling a million times, but I never had a song to capture my emotions after sex, now I do. The track is hilarious and it slaps. One of my favorite tracks on Turtleneck & Chain is Jack Sparrow featuring Michael Bolton. Now Jack Sparrow has a dope club banging beat with some pretty saucy rhymes from The Lonely Island guys, but Michael Bolton really steals the show with his funny ass singing and off topic chorus. The premise of the song is that the guys from the Island have made a dope club banger, but need Michael Bolton to sing the hook, now he is up for the task, but goes off topic on the chorus every time, because he has just finished watching a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon. The Lonely Island guys start to get frustrated at Bolton, because they are talking about counting stacks and he is singing about Captain Jack Sparrow, Forest Gump, and Scarface. Jack Sparrow is one of the funniest songs I have ever heard and it had my neck snappin'! Now I could tell you about every track on Turtleneck & Chain, but the surprise of the shock of the track is just to good. Make sure to check out Shy Ronnie 2 featuring Rihanna, Motherlover featuring Justin Timberlake, and The Creep featuring Nicki Minaj. A lot of cats in the rap game take themselves way to seriously, and it is nice to hear some rap music that is about fun, outlandish, and just plain stupid topics. I'm not saying that deep, real, motivated music isn't my style, but it is nice to take a break. If you are looking to laugh your ass off while still rolling to thoughout rhymes, and stereo box shaking slump, go out and grab The Lonely Island's Turtleneck & Chain.
