« What's Slappin' In My Trunk »

This week I'm takin it back to 2009...that's right I've been sleepin'!

Jern Eye - Vision

Vision - Jern Eye

This week I have been slappin' Jern Eye's 2009 release, Vision. I try to bring you guys the latest heat to slap in your trunk, but sometimes you find a gem from a few years or even a few decades back and you just have to tell the world about it. I was recently balling out over at TRU and when i was checking out they gave me a hand full of CD which included Jern Eye's Vision. I had to slap Vision first just off the features I read on the track list which includes Guilty Simpson, Cali Agents Mistah F.A.B. Zumbi, Spank Pops and many more. Even though the features got my attention at first, Vision is much more then a few dope features. Vision is a well thought out, inspiring, album that has open the door to Jern Eye's music for me. The first impression I got from the music from Jern Eye was, ok cool this is some "backpack" early 90's all about the rhymes kind of Hip Hop, which Vision is, but the album takes it past the typical verse flipping with a sense of soul behind Jern Eye's rhymes. The real genius behind Jern Eye's Vison is that it has soul, but still stays grimy. Take for example Burnin' featuring Cali Agents and Aristotle which is a well produced and mixed song that expresses the feeling when you don't want to leave a loved one. Burnin' is a highlight for me with Cali Agents killin' their verses and Aristotle laying down a beautiful hook. Burnin' is eloquent, but then Jern Eye gives us a grimy back your ass of the wall track with Get Down which follows Burnin'. Get Down feels like it was created with someone's drum machine in a bathroom with a crappy mic, but that's the genius behind Get Down! Get Down is just the pure Hip Hop that isn't trying to do to much, but makes u break your neck. In the same sense of work Jern Eye breaks it down with Pleasure. Another basic beat, Pleausre lets the word play talk and the beat play second fiddle in the song which doesn't happen all that often in rap music and more. Pleasure is a feel good song that will make you want to dance your ass off then freak your lady! Real talk! Other slaps on Vision include The Difference featuring NightClubber Lang, Get Right featuring Zumbi and Mistah F.A.B.(Zumbi murders his verse!) , and the title track Vision. The word Hip Hop and Rap get thrown around a lot, but if someone came up to me and asked what rap music is all about I would hit them with Jern Eye's Vision. It's not the best rap album I've ever heard, but the heart in Jern Eye spills out which makes Vision a slapper that I can't believe I slept on. So next time you are at TRU or shit anywhere they sell music pick up Vision.
