« What's Slappin' In My Trunk  »

This week I think I'm a rapgod...

This week I'm slapping He Think He #Rapgod, from Hieroglyphics' Casual. He Think He #Rapgod which is Casual's six solo effort dropped in late 2011. I know, I know I've been sleeping, but its never to late to catch the good music train. He Think He #Rapgod features some underground heavyweight including Peplove, Planet Asia, Del The Funky Homosapien, and Killer Ben as well as others. He Think He #Rapgod is the second project that Casual has put out in the past year, but since 2011 he hadn't given us a release since Smash Rockwell in 2005. The wait has been well worth it folks, because He Think He #Rapgod is a classic Casual album that gives us intelligent rhyme schemes and hard hitting East Oakland flavor. He Think He #Rapgod kicks off with two tracks that set the tone for the record. #Rapgod featuring Tajai and Peploe and Deltron Z Meets #Rapgod featuring Del are both two of my favorite tracks off He Think He #Rapgod, because both tracks displays the lyrical connection between Casual and his fellow Hieroglyphic patnas. Casual has dope solo tracks, but he really shines when he is on the mic with his boys. Deltron Z Meets #Rapgod begs for a Del and Casual callabo album. There are other tracks on He Thinks He #Rapgod that feature Hiero members like Flamethrower and Fake but the previous tracks really showcase Casual's skills and ability to play off his peers. In the heart of He Think He #Rapgod Casual drops Baseball featuring Planet Asia, Killer Ben, and Tristate, which is one of my favorite tracks on the album. Baseball doesn't take the normal separate verse for each rapper approach, but instead each rapper weaves their raps in and out of each others; very Beastie Boys esq.I wish more rappers would use this style when collaborating with other artists. It makes the track more exciting and the song has a real sense of collaboration and not each rapper doing their verse and sending it in via E-mail. Other slappers on He Think He #Rapgod include, but are not limited to Balling Out of Control featuring Chapp, Dogon Don, and Lieza. If you want an album from a talented veteran wordsmith in the game than He Think He #Rapgod is the album for you. Casual continues to buck the trends of Bay Area MC and paves his own lyrical road on the highway of Hip Hop.
