« Whats Slappin In My Trunk »

This week lets rec your life...

This week I'm slappin' the latest from the Rec League's Qm & Pudge, the No SleE.P. Dropping on the 21st, of February I got early listen and I what I heard was a classic mix of beer drinking and rhyme flipping cuts. Repping Rec League South Pudge is a rather new mc to ME, but I'm pretty familiar with QM, and what I found is that Pudge is truly a Rec League mc. If you haven't heard from Rec League before especially QM than you must understand that they are Frisco's answer to the Wu-Tang clan mixed with Tha Alkaholiks. These guys like to party and it reflects on thier tracks, which most are about good times, cold beers, and bad broads. The No SleE.P. is no different and features 6 tracks about drinking Tecate, getting paid, and partying your ass off. The No SleE.P. features some real nice laid back and smooth production from Juicy The Emissary, A Sims, Grip Grand, and Tlit. The production on No SleE.P. is one of my favorite parts about the EP with fun E-40 samples on Woke Up In The A.M. to the classic The Rock skit at the end of Know My Name featuring Ernie McCrackin the production is on point and fits well with QM and Pudge's style. The production and mixing is fun, smooth, and light hearted, but the real genius to No SleE.P. are QM and Pudge's rhymes. QM has more of a buttery style, the way he blends his rhymes and reverts back to a previous rhyme in a bar, while Pudge has a more straight forward approach (that's not to say dumbed down) to his bars. The two aren't the most similar or most contrasting styles, somewhere in the middle, but the two seem to go together like tequila and bad decisions. One of my favorite tracks on No SleE.P. has to be W.B.W.. What does W.B.W. stand for you, you ask? That's white boy wasted, a term that has been adopted by many in the Bay Area rap community, but I honestly don't think most of them live the life like Pudge and QM do. Make sure to listen carefully to the last verse of W.B.W. for a little Kanye flip on the white boy wasted made by QM. Some of the other dope tracks on No SleE.P. include but are not limited to Out Rage, Time To Get Paid, and my favorite No Sleep. The thing is most of Qm and Pudge's songs are about drinking, but at least I can take them seriously, because I know they are out there having a good time really living what they are rapping.Don't get it twisted though Pudge and QM are not just some alcoholics that got behind the mic, these cats have serious skill when it comes to dropping similes, metaphors, and interact rhymes with unique and varying flows. Their is an honesty to their music, all with a touch of light heated partyness that you can really get behind. If you are looking for a fun E.P. that can deliver unique rhyme schemes and crackin' beats than No SleE.P. by QM and Pudge is for you. Make sure you check out the album on the 2/21 at Routinefly.com. Slap the No SleE.P. and Rec your life.
