Buggin Out with Roach Gigz (Exclusive Interview)

@RoachG just dropped his debut album Bugged Out and goddamn, it SLAPS! We got a chance to catch up with Roach and go through the album song-by-song. Instead of the boring "What inspired you to make this song?" questions, we decided to spice it up a little bit...Check out the interview after the jump!

AND: Roach is on tour! Cop tickets to see him in your city now!

    1) Bugged Out

You sample Sir Ronald Dregan for the intro of the album. Do you remember the first time you heard Mac Dre? How has he influenced you and your music?

Middle School. Thizzle Washington was the first CD I heard. If there was no Mac Dre I wouldn't be talking to you right now.

    2) Wasabi

What's the story behind this song? Was sushi involved? How much wasabi is too much wasabi?

Actually yeah, there was a lot of Sushi involved. We were at a Sushi restaurant in Japan Town eating hella California rolls and I was inspired to make Wasabi. I recorded it right then and there at the table. That low pitch voice, that was our waiter. And no amount of Wasabi is too much. Berner once bet me $50 I wouldn't eat the fat chunk of Wasabi they put on your plate, and lets just say I'm $50 richer. It was gross.

    3) Going Off

One of your lines is, "Goomba, they askin what that means!" What DOES Goomba mean?

Goomba means whatever you want it to mean, you know what I mean!?

    4) Loco

Which of your songs makes them go the most loco in this bitch?!

    Wasabi. Definitely.

    5) Thanksgiving Turkey

What is a Thanksgiving like at Casa de Roach?

You know, normal shit. Everybody says what they are thankful for. We grab chairs from every part of the house and put them around the table so people can fit. We eat until we're 10 pounds plumper, and we keep eating the same shit for the next week and two days.

    6) Different

What's the main thing that sets you apart from other rappers?

I hate vodka. All these rappers drink Vodka these days and advertise it like its so cool and all that. Hell no. That shit  makes me sick man. Its Gin all day with me baby.

    7) One

You talk about being from / going to Nicaragua. Where in Nicaragua were your parents from? How many times have you been to Nicaragua and what's it like over there?

My parents were living in Nicaragua when they met and made me. Thats where I began to grow but I was in the Bay by the time I was born. They aren't from there though. My little sisters mom is from there. I've been to Nicaragua once to visit my dad back when I was like 14. Thats when I discovered Flore De Cana. Besides Gin, I mess with that too.

    8) Regular Night

Is this a true story? What's up with those Town bitches, why'd you go all the way out to Pinole?

No telling if this is true or not. You decide. I love Oakland girls, that night I just decided to hit Pinole.

    9) Me And My Gin

You've been known to have a bottle of Bombay on you from time to time. When did Bombay become your official drink? Have you thought about getting sponsored by Bombay?

I have been drinking Bombay forever. We had a big ass collection of Bombay bottles all over my first spot as decoration, it looked like a damn ocean with all those blue bottles lined up. If we were low on dough we would get Seagrams or New Amsterdam, but always Gin, always.

    10) Over The Bass

This song is about saying things on a song that are hard to say in person. Do you have any songs that are directed at someone who might not even know? What's the story behind them?

If I make a song about you, your gonna know. This girl knows exactly who she is.

    11) Worth It

Who is this R-E-M-E-D-Y (@YoungRemedy415) character? How did you guys meet?

You know, Remedy, thats my patna man, wherever I go he's rolling too. Honestly though, I think he is one of the most talented young artists in the Bay Area. And he's funny as hell too, he has me rolling! But I knew his older brother when I was younger, and me and RemGod are just hella cool. Thats my bro.

    12) OVA

One of your lines is, "I'm gunna be Jay company / I'm gunna be Ye company / I'm gunna be Wayne company". If you got a call from a blocked number and it was one of them wanting to sign you, which one would you want it to be and why?

    I don't give a fuck. I need some money.

    13) Laid Back

When it's 4 in the morning and things are starting to wind down, what is the secret to keeping the party going?

Dextro or Molly. But since I don't promote drugs and I just joined the Say No campaign. Coffee will keep you up, try that. All you really need is some of this Bay Area player in you and you'll be fine.

    14) Till I Die

6 million ways to die....choose one. And how old do you want to be when you go out?

Die? Now why the hell would I want to talk about dying. I'm living!!!!
